Taking care of Lash extensions

After you get lash extensions, avoid getting them wet for at least 24 hours to get the most out of your extensions. After you leave the studio, the lashes have fully cured, however, the bond continues to strengthen over the next 24 hours. When applying or removing makeup, stay away from liquid or oil-based products near your lash lines as they will quickly break down the lash adhesive.

To maintain your lash extensions, gently brush the tips daily with a dry spoolie (I will provide these after each appointment). Wash your lashes everyday with an approved eyelash extension cleanser.

Most importantly (and often the hardest part), do not touch, rub or pull at your eyelash extensions. You should also try sleeping on your back to prevent your extensions from rubbing off in your sleep.

Questions Our Customers Ask About Lash Extensions:

  • How often should I get my eyelash extensions refilled?

We recommend booking your fill within 1 to 3 weeks of application to keep your lashes looking full and lush. Lash refills are most effective when you still have around 50% or more of the extensions left, so the best timing for you will depend on how well you care for your extensions.

Feel free to consult your lash stylist with refill questions. If you wait over 3 weeks to fill, you may need to get a new full set instead.

  • Can I wear mascara with lash extensions?

Short answer: no. Long answer: putting mascara on your eyelash extensions will cause them to clump together and trying to remove mascara will remove or break your extensions. In addition, it can damage your natural lashes by causing them to shed prematurely.

Take advantage of your new lashes to cut down your daily makeup routine! You can still accent your eye with eyeliner and eyeshadow (just keep liquid and oil-based products away from your lash line). To remove makeup near your eye without lash damage, use cotton swabs, cotton pads, or lint-free paper towel and gently swipe around your lashes, trying not to touch them, with an oil-free makeup remover. Ensure you then wash your lash line and eyelash extensions with an approved eyelash extension cleanser.

If you’re wanting a bold, full look, we offer Volume Lash Extensions to give you that show-stopping eye.

  • How do I wash my face with eyelash extensions?

Find oil-free facial cleansers specifically marked safe for eyelash extensions before fully washing your face. Other cleansers may contain components that will break down the lash adhesive.

When washing your face, avoid rubbing the extensions and use a circular motion to spread the cleanser onto your cheeks, forehead, and chin. To rinse, cup lukewarm water in your hands and gently wet your face. If you’re in the shower, you can allow the water to run down your face and eyes (try not to aim the water directly at your face) without damaging your extensions.

When drying off, either let your lashes air dry or and gently dab underneath your eyes with a lint-free towel.

Within 24 hours of getting your lash extensions, avoid getting them wet to allow the lash adhesive to fully bond to your natural lashes. Once they’ve fully bonded, your eyelash extensions will be waterproof.

  • Can I remove my eyelash extensions myself?

If you need your lashes removed, we highly recommend having a lash technician do it for you. Pulling, tugging, or rubbing your extensions can cause damage to your natural lashes.

Alternatively, you can wait for your extensions to naturally fall off after about a month.

Nevertheless, the best way to remove all your extensions and keep your natural lashes safe is to come back to our studio and let our trained professionals help you.

  • How do I sleep with eyelash extensions?

There are a few ways you can help keep your lashes in great condition and prevent them from becoming damaged or broken while you sleep.

Falling asleep on your back instead of your stomach will protect your extensions since they won’t be rubbing up against your pillow. You can also try sleeping on your side with your lashes over the edge of your pillow.

If you have trouble staying on your back while you sleep, try a U-shaped pillow specifically designed for that position. The pillow’s shape will help reduce tossing and turning through the night.

You should look into purchasing a 3D sleep mask to help protect your lashes from all angles. Try swapping out a cotton pillowcase for silk instead to reduce friction, which can cause your extensions to rub off.
